What is Movember?
Movember is a campaign that raises awareness for prostate cancer, and also involves campaigning male mental health and suicide prevention. The goal of Movember is to reduce the number of men dying prematurely from these causes by 25% by the year 2030. Movember originated in Australia in 2003 with 30 "Mo-Bros." Since then, over 20 countries have taken part, there are over 5.5 million "Mo-Bros and Sistas," and over $700 million has been raised globally.
Signs and Symptoms of Prostate Cancer:
o Burning or pain during urination
o Difficulty urinating, or trouble starting and stopping while urinating
o More frequent urges to urinate at night
o Loss of bladder control
o Decreased flow or velocity of the urine stream
o Blood in the urine (hematuria)
o Blood in semen
o Difficulty getting an erection (erectile dysfunction)
o Painful ejaculation
Prostate cancer is most commonly diagnosed in men after the age of 60, however, changes of developing prostate cancer increase significantly after the age of 50. The rate of men with unchecked prostate cancer is expected to double in the next 15 years, and testicular cancer rates have already doubled in the last 50.
